Surf / Instrumental
Back in the early 1960s, Dick Dale pioneered a style of instrumental music that was mid-eastern influenced, and used reverb on the guitar. You have probably heard Dick Dale's music, even if you don't recognize the name. His music was used for the Phillips Flat Screen TV commercial, Domino's Pizza, ... His music was used as the opening track in the Pulp Fiction movie.
Most of these bands that I have recorded are Surf / Instrumental. While Surf / Instrumental bands are easiest to record with a 2 microphone set up such as I use, I have also recorded a wide variety of other sounds. Including punk (Weirdos, Foreign Object, Agent Orange, Raw Power Rangers, ...), jazz (UKB Trio, UKB Quartet, Captain Dan and His Earthbabies, ...), and various forms of rock (Captain Genius, Savage City, Spooky Pie, Authorized Dealer, Peachfuzz, Cheap Chick, ...), ...
All of these bands, except for (Celebration Of Life) were done by me (without outside gear or help) with my trusty Sony TC-D5M and a pair of Audio-Technica AT801 microphones on stage.
In May 2004 I upgraded from analog to digital. I now use a Fostex FR-2 (2 channel digital Field Recorder) while recording bands. However, I continue to use the same pair of Audio-Technica AT801 microphones that I originally started with.
