CHROME OXIDE: WRITER

Under the pen name of Chrome Oxide I write humorous science fiction and fantasy. However, I've been accused of writing murder mysteries since I murder the English language and it's a mystery how I get published.

When people ask why I write humorous science fiction and fantasy, I explain that my reality check bounced.

Since I haven't made many sales and I didn't want my site to look abandoned, I decided to add a new section, writers resources.

This will be anything from online programs, to software you install on your computer. Of course, I will have a few links to sites that list markets.

I'm interested in about your favorite resources.

March 31, 2014 is the deadline for nominating for the Hugo and John W. Campbell Award ballot.

If you're not sure who to vote for in the short story category, I would like to suggest you vote for Chrome Oxide for Cop For A Day published in Writers of the Future, volume XXIX.

If you're not sure who to vote for the John W. Campbell Award for the Best New Writer, then I would like to suggest Chrome Oxide who is in his first year of eligibility.

You have until March 31, 2014 to nominate the stories you want to see on the ballot.

Hugo and John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer

Because my first professional sale, Cop For A Day, by Chrome Oxide, was in June 2013 I am eligible for both the Hugo and John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer.

Stupefying Stories just electronically published 2014 Campbellian Anthology. This anthonlogy will only be online for a short time. So if you are interested in reading my story along with all the other authors eligible for this award go here sooner rather than later.

If you wish to nominate and vote for either award, you will need to purchase either an attending or supporting membership to LonCon 3 - 72nd World Science Fiction Convention. Supporting memberships are $42.00 until February 28, 2014 after which the price goes up. For those planning on attending, the convention will be held in London, England between August 14 to August 18, 2014.

Why should you consider nominating me for the Hugo ballot? According to the Tangent Online 2013 Recommended Reading List, my story is one of the 29 best short stories of the year in the science fiction and fantasy field.

Tangent Online 2013 Recommended Reading List includes in the Short Stories Three Stars (the scale is from 0 to 3) section Cop For A Day, by Chrome Oxide.

John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer

I am now listed on Writertopia under 2014 Award: Writers in 1st year of eligibility for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer.

Cop For A Day - Review

October 15, 2013 SF Site Reviews reviewed Writer's of the Future XXIX. This review has something thoughtful to say about every story in this book. Starting at paragraph 12, I was surprised to find out this reviewer, Dave Truesdale, thought my story was the best story in the book.

Book Sales and Signings

In case anyone was unable to attend the official book signings (held at Barnes & Noble in Burbank and Huntington Beach) or any of my stealth signings (at shows in the Southern California area-Huntington Beach, El Segundo and Hermosa Beach), and are interested in an autographed copy of the book, I'll be keeping a couple of the books in my car until I run out.

The Writers and Illustrators of the Future will be having a book and calendar signing events. As the only Los Angeles writer, I will be joined by some of the Los Angeles area award winning illustrators and contest judges.

STOP THE PRESSES - AGAIN!: December 26, 2012

Another day, another phone call.

Writers of the Future will be publishing my story in their annual anthology. I came in fourth place. Which means no prize money. :-( However, I do get normal pay for my story, I will attend the writers workshop and the awards ceremony and receive all the other benefits of the winners.

START THE PRESSES: December 20, 2012

I'm no longer at a loss for words. The winners were announced, and I wasn't one of them. I'm disappointed that I didn't win. However, I'm still very happy that my first time submission did this well. I may yet have a future with this writing thing. :-)

Final Yearly Winners Announced by Author Services, Inc. in International Writers of the Future Contest

STOP THE PRESSES: December 13, 2012

Would you believe I am at a loss for words?

I received a phone call this morning informing me that I am one of eight writers selected as finalists in the 4th quarter of this contest which has been running for twenty nine years. I am both surprised and honored to reach this point. I am looking forward to seeing my stories in print. If not here, then in other publications that feature science fiction and fantasy writers.

Since I have sold more recordings than stories, I have placed a photo of a selection of recordings I have participated on.
